Karachi: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali
Shah has said that it is an endeavor of present government
to provide healthcare and treatment facilities to the people
and it is for the first time that special attention has been
given to social sector. This he said while addressing the
Aga Khan University Convocation 2008 at auditorium of university
on Saturday. He said there is worst situation in government
hospitals and we have to improve the situation in these hospitals
particularly in Civil Hospital Karachi, which is an old and
historic institution and requires full attention of all section
of society particularly the government departments.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah announced that incentives will be given
to those doctors who will serve in the rural and remote areas.
He lauded the role of Aga Khan University from where people
of Sindh have benefited as medical and nursing students. Chief
Minister said that Pakistan is going through tremendous change
and today country is very different from the one that existed
when present students entered the university, and changes
being faced as a country as deeper and more pressing in the
face of the worldwide economic crisis, added that as a new
government in office, the government has the dire need to
improve education and create opportunities for economic development
and prosperity of Pakistan.
He appreciated the efforts of AKU as far as Education City
is concerned and hoped that AKU will be part of this initiative
when new faculty of Arts and Sciences opens on Education City.
Qaim Ali Shah hoped that new faculty will develop new leaders
for Pakistan, equipped with critical thinking skills and a
global outlook to feed the global skills shortage and will
provide opportunities for Pakistan.
Earlier, President AKU Firoz Rasul presented welcome address
and informed that in all 277 students are being given to graduate
diploma’s and conferring of degrees. He highlighted
the efforts of University for various programs.
Chief Minister Sindh also gave away award of Best Graduate.
The convocation was largely attended by doctors, staff of
college, teachers and notables of city.—RT |
