ISLAMABAD: The in-camera joint session of parliament
summoned by the government on October 8 will discuss policy
and strategy on war against terrorism, said Pakistan People’s
Party spokesman Farhatullah Babar.
The debate in parliament would help devise plan as per aspirations
of elected representatives and provide opportunity to take
masses into confidence on the issue, he added.
Babar said PPP considers previous policy of war on terror
as ``one-man policy orchestrated by former military dictator
Pervez Musharraf. The nation and political parties were neither
consulted nor taken into confidence on this issue in the past.’’
The government would listen to point of view of all parties
through their representatives in parliament, ascertain sentiments
of people and their representatives about role of Pakistan
in war on terrorism.
The heads of security and intelligence agencies are expected
to brief members of parliament on challenges facing the country
and its role in war against terror, he said.
“Our policy is to take all sections of society into
confidence, especially members of Parliament with regard to
fighting terrorism, extremism- most dangerous challenges being
faced by Pakistan at present.’’
“As some matters of sensitive nature are likely to be
discussed, it has been decided that session be held in-camera.
In-camera sessions had been held in the past on sensitive
issues and is part of democratic process,’’ he
added.—Agencies |
