ISLAMABAD: Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly
said the unanimous decision to elect Chairman and adoption
of draft rules of procedure for the Constitutional Reforms
Committee (CRC) in its first meeting was a good start, signaling
the speedy completion of the task assigned to the Committee.
Talking to newsmen, the Speaker said the Committee consisting
of seasoned politicians was constituted on the desire of
the President and after the unanimous resolution passed
by the National Assembly and the Senate with the task which
the entire nation wants to accomplish quickly and satisfactorily.
She said that unanimity shown by the Committee regarding
election of its Chairman and adoption of draft rules of
procedure for the Committee was a good omen, speaking for
the will and determination of the Committee to move forward
speedily.
She said that calling for proposals and suggestions from
a cross section of the society, including lawyers and constitutional
experts was novel idea that speaks volumes for the good
intentions and desire of the Committee to take the entire
nation on board regarding Constitutional Reforms.
The Speaker congratulated Senator Raza Rabbani on his unopposed
election as Chairman of the Constitutional Reforms Committee
and expressed hope that under his chairmanship the Committee
would successfully accomplish the assignment.
