ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani
on Friday ruled out the division of Punjab into further provinces
and said the country could not afford to do so in such times
of trouble.
Talking to the press after presiding over the convocation
of a women’s college here, the Prime Minister said ‘we
cannot afford to have more provinces. It would be like opening
up a Pandora’s box.’
Editorial : The act of a beast The report regarding how
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Baitullah
Mehsud has been buying children, including
seven-year-olds, to turn them into suicide
bombers is enough to make one sick to the
stomach.
The report quotes a Pakistani official as
saying that the going price for child bombers
was Rs 500,000 to Rs 1 million.
It also quotes a US defence official as
saying that Mehsud has turned suicide bombing
into a production output, not unlike Toyota
outputs cars. The US official said that
the price depends on how quickly the bomber
was needed and how close the child was expected
to get to the target. These innocent suicide
bombers are sold or bartered.
One can simply imagine the beast that Baitullah
Mehsud is. If evil was found in its purest
form on the planet, it can be seen in this
man, or perhaps in those people who this
atrocious animal is working for.
The security forces should eradicate this
sorry excuse for a human being as soon as
possible, not just for the sake of the country,
but the whole of humanity. This man certainly
does not deserve to live and it is better
that he is brought to justice so that many
lives that he intends to take are spared.
After the tribal region is cleansed from
this unholy existence, the government should
start planning about how to ensure that
no other Baitullah Mehsud surfaces in the
area and starts manipulating the impoverished
and downtrodden locals into selling their
kids.
People such as Mehsud thrive due to the
poverty that is prevalent in the tribal
areas. As the government has failed to provide
basic necessities of life and a chance of
a better livelihood to the people living
in destitute conditions in the tribal belt,
it is no wonder then that the locals fall
into the trap of predators like Mehsud.
Such perpetrators of terror find a perfect
breeding ground to prepare their army of
brainwashed human beings, who are simply
puppets acting on the orders of their masters.
The tribal areas need development, education,
job opportunities, and all things necessary
for a healthy society to develop. If these
areas are left ignored, another Baitullah
Mehsud will pick up from where the current
one would leave, and the reign of terror
would never end.
