ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari
on Saturday said the attacks in Gaza were violation of the
UN Charter and urged the international community to play its
role in bringing an end to violence against Palestinians.
He was talking to special envoy of Iran Gholam Hossein Nozari
who called on him in the Presidency and delivered him a letter
from the President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad. President
Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan has expressed grave concern
over the attacks in Gaza and called for cessation of brutal
attacks against unarmed and innocent Palestinians.
The President said the Pakistan government had urged the international
community to bring to end violence against the Palestinians
and promote a peaceful, just and durable settlement of the
Palestinian issue in accordance with relevant United Nations
Security Council resolutions. The special envoy of the Iranian
President said the recent attacks and blockade of Gaza by
Israeli forces had posed a new threat to peace and stability
in the region that called for a concerted action by the Muslim
countries. President Zardari told the special envoy of the
menace of terrorism in the region and the need for adopting
a regional approach involving also Iran and China to counter
it. He said terrorism was a monster that required combined
efforts of the countries in the region to tackle it.
The special envoy also highlighted the close relations between
Iran and Pakistan and the need to translate them in greater
economic cooperation between the two countries. He said that
Iran was keen to go ahead with the gas pipeline project to
further economic cooperation. Gholam Hossein Nozari renewed
President Nejad’s invitation to President Asif Ali Zardari
to visit Iran, which he said will further cement the close
relations between the two countries.
The President said that he looked forward to visiting Iran
soon. He also conveyed his best wishes and regards to the
Iranian President and through him to the people of Iran.—Agencies |
