KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company
(KESC) has been accused of increasing sufferings of patients
at different hospitals of Karachi by carrying out massive
load shedding for several hours despite arrival of summer
season.
PPI learnt on Wednesday that due to load shedding, power
generators are run from morning to noon and are switched
off afternoon, causing torments to the patients.
At the Sindh Government Services Hospital, one of two generators
are switched at morning hours, while other is out of order
and yet to be repaired.
At Lyari General Hospital, situation is not different, where
one generator is out of order, while other is switched on
at only morning time in case of load shedding. Other hospitals
of the city are facing same situation.
Owing to faulty generators at hospitals and switching on
some others for limited time in the morning hours, patients
at these hospitals have to suffer a lot. Several patients
complained that they had to not only suffer from hot weather
but also from KESC load-shedding that causes drinking water
shortage at the health centers.
It was also learnt that although some NGOs had arranged
to provide power generators to hospitals besides affording
the fuel expenditures, but they are not sufficient to meet
the requirement. Load shedding has been causing inordinate
delays in surgeries and laboratory tests, the patients said.—PPI
